Has two sons -

Simon, a designer,

print-maker

and illustrator.

Tom, an electric and

acoustic guitarist,

and Millie their lucky

Richard studied at Farnham School of Art from 1958 -1964.

Worked in the creative departments of two major advertising agencies

( JWT & Y&R ) in London and Milan for seven years.

Then in 1972, began a career freelancing.

Commissions included illustration, exhibition design and

book design, leading eventually to writing and illustrating over

a hundred books ; mainly for children.

Many of his 'novelty' books were created with David Wood,

the children's playright.

Throughout his life Richard has made time to paint and draw.

Working on many paintings inspired by neglected coastal

structures and landscapes usually containing man-made paraphernalia.

His love of steam locomotives

is also reflected in many of his paintings.

One such work; 'Corrosion IV' was exhibited in the

Royal Academy's Summer Exhibition 2010.

Award (infant category) for: ‘Ladybird Moves Home’, 1994

Winner of The Sunday Times Watercolour Competition with

‘Portishead’, acrylic painting 2017

‘Silent Summer’ exhibited in the Royal Academy’s Summer Exhibition 2019
